Getting out of a rut
Are you feeling anxious, uneasy or just not like yourself lately? It’s okay because you’re NOT ALONE. We all feel like this every once in a while. Our moods go up and down, and lately I’ve been seeing a lot of people in the “down” stage. The good thing is, it’s not permanent.
I think it’s important to feel this, and not run away or bury it. Instead, acknowledge it.
Take the time to reflect. Ask yourself, ‘how am I feeling and what do I need right now? If it means binge-watching Netflix, then hey no judgment here, but eventually you will have to do things to start feeling like yourself again.
It’s going to be different for everyone. So what does it look like for you? A spin class? yoga? a walk outside? Or hanging out with some of your favorite people that make you laugh. The important thing is to listen to yourself, and I can’t stress this enough.
Here are a few things to keep in mind;
– Remind yourself that low mood is not the result of personal failure or a weak character
– Keep regular sleeping hours and do not stay in bed during the day
– Allow yourself to cry, it is a release and you will feel much better afterwards
If you’re not able to get out of the rut on your own it’s okay to ask for a little help. Talk to a loved one, a mental health professional (if it’s prolonged), or come to Reset Health for a GAM treatment. GAM can do wonders for your mental health and if there’s one thing that my patient’s have in common it’s their feeling of being “lighter” after treatment. Now who doesn’t like that? 🙂
